Planning To Get Pregnant?

Assalamualaikum wbt and good day readers!

*ehem* Writing an entry about getting pregnant doesn't mean that I am currently pregnant... *ehem*

Actually, saya nak share something which I just found out. Some of you maybe dah lama tau, so maybe we can share other inputs in the comment.... perhaps? Few weeks back, I was talking with my colleague pasal multivitamins and supplements. Then, kawan saya ni cakap pasal folic acid. From my understanding, folic acid ni biasanya diambil oleh ibu- ibu yang mengandung. Kalau tak silap, biasanya first trimester doctor mesti bagi pil folic acid as a supplement. Saya tak tau fungsi folic acid, so saya googled and this is what I found in wikipedia;

Vitamin B9 (folic acid and folate) is essential to numerous bodily functions. The human body needs folate to synthesize DNA, repair DNA, and methylate DNA as well as to act as a cofactor in certain biological reactions. It is especially important in aiding rapid cell division and growth, such as in infancy and pregnancy. Children and adults both require folic acid to produce healthy red blood cells and prevent anemia.
So, folic acid ni rupanya one of vitamin B (B9). Selama ni makan vitamin B sebab ibu cakap saya ni lembik and cepat letih. Hahaha..Tapi dah makan vitamin B pun sama je letih? Atau sebenarnya mengada lebih? :P

Ok, so seperti apa yang di'quote'kan, folic acid ni penting untuk membaikpulih pertumbuhan sel especially untuk bayi dalam kandungan. Dan folic acid ni sebenarnya membantu untuk melindungi bayi dalam kandungan from developing defects in his nerve system (neural tube defects), such as spina bifida. Ok la.. tak reti nak elaborate lebih - lebih. You may click here for better understanding. Dan saya juga baru tau, folic acid ni better di ambil beberapa bulan before kita plan nak get pregnant. Bukannya time tengah pregnant saja. I guess, siapa - siapa yang jenis banyak makan sayur or buah (not a picky eater) patut tak ada masalah sangat lah sebab dalam makanan tu pun contains banyak vitamin B.

 Example of food yang provide 100-200 micrograms per serving:
  • spinach, 1 cup;
  • ladies’ fingers, half cup
  • asparagus, half cup;
  • lentils, half cup;
  • liver, 1 slice;
Dan example of food provides 50-100 micrograms per serving pula:
  • steamed broccoli, 2 spears;
  • large orange;
  • white rice, half cup
  • oatmeal, half cup;
  • kidney beans, half cup;
It is advisable to take 400 micrograms of folic acid daily prior to conception and during early pregnancy. ;) By the way, B-complex Shaklee mengandungi 200 microgram folic acid dan tujuh vitamin B penting yang lain. Boleh baca lanjut di sini.

  1. Kalau ikut buku Dr Danial Zainal Abidin, org lelaki pun disaran utk ambil folic acid (at least from the diet) utk improve sperm quality. yelah, sbb cell jugak kan.. :)
